Fossil to stop selling smartwatches

Fossil is quitting selling smartwatches and has decided to focus on its other products, it was reported on Saturday.

The decision means that the company's latest Gen 6 watch, launched in 2021, will be its last.

According to The Verge, the premium watchmaker has chosen to not keep up with the "fast-evolving" smartwatch business and has decided to focus on its other products, which besides watches, include jewellery and leather goods.

"As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business," Fossil spokesperson Amanda Castelli told The Verge.

She added, "Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support our core strength and the core segments of our business that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewellery, and leather goods under our own as well as licensed brand names."

Castelli said the company will keep supplying updates for its existing Wear OS watches for the next few years.
