India among most active countries on Threads

India has emerged to be one of the active countries for the Threads app, which has crossed more than 175 million monthly active users globally, the site's parent company Meta has revealed.

"With 175 million actives, we're seeing Threads become a place where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. India is one of the most active countries for Threads globally," Meta said in a release, according to PTI.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the news and said, "Thread was launched with the belief that everyone has something valuable to say."

In India, some of the most popular tags and topics on Threads are mostly about film, TV, celebrity-related conversations, OTT content, and sports.

"It's been a year now, and we're seeing it become a place where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. In fact, India is one of the most active countries for Threads globally," the release said.

The T20 World Cup, IPL, and Women's Premier League 2024 emerged as the big moments for India which sparked cricket conversations on Threads, with more than 200 creators sharing updates about the recent IPL season this year on the platform.

Threads, a rival of Elon Musk-owned X, immediately after its inception in July 2023 acquired 100 million user sign-ups within a week of its launch. The number, however, dwindled afterwards.
