Karnataka Assembly to deploy AI cameras to check on MLAs

The Karnataka government will be installing AI cameras in the state assembly to ensure accountability of MLAs, beginning the monsoon session on July 15.

The cameras will record the number of times MLAs enter and exit the assembly, according to Times of India.

The data will be available on a dashboard to Speaker UT Khader who will know who comes on time, who attends meetings till the end, and how many hours are spent by the legislator in the proceedings.

Secretariat officials said these cameras have facial recognition ability to identify lawmakers.

"We give the Best Legislator award to those who come early to the session. But there were suggestions that MLAs who stay back till the end must be considered as well. So, this will be calculated using technology," Khader said at a press conference.

Currently, the technology is being tested to remove some glitches.

Speaker Khader said a mobile app will be soon available for people to gain access to information about Vidhana Soudha – the iconic building in Bengaluru that houses the state legislature.
