Meta launches text-to-image AI on WhatsApp in US

With this feature, users can begin typing a text-to-image request in a chat with Meta AI and get the image.

"Built with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is one of the world’s leading AI assistants, already on your phone, in your pocket for free. And it’s starting to go global with more features," Meta said in a release on Thursday.

In the demonstration provided by the company, a user enters the prompt, "Imagine a soccer game on Mars." The generated image promptly shifts from a regular soccer player to depicting an entire soccer field set against a Martian backdrop.

If users have access to the beta version, they can even test out the feature by initiating a chat with Meta AI and beginning a prompt with the word "Imagine."

Meta claimed that its Meta Llama 3 model can now generate images that are "sharper and higher quality" and excel in displaying text.

Besides being accessible on WhatsApp, real-time image generation is also accessible to users in the US through Meta AI for the web.

The feature is introduced as part of a larger deployment of AI features across all Meta apps, encompassing WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

"While these updates are specific to Meta AI in Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and on the web, Meta AI is also available in the US on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses — and coming to Meta Quest," the company said.
