OpenAI has joined hands with the Guardian Media Group to allow the ChatGPT users to access the UK-based newspaper's journalism.
In turn, the media firm, which owns The Guardian newspaper, will deploy ChatGPT Enterprise across the business to develop new products.
OpenAI announced the partnership on Friday, but there was no word on how much the deal was struck for.
"Through this partnership, ChatGPT’s 300 million weekly global users will gain direct access and receive extended summaries to the Guardian’s trusted reporting. This aims to broaden Guardian’s reach, connecting its journalism with interested audiences around the world," the foremost US-based AI firm said.
The news content will appear with attribution to The Guardian, founded as Manchester Guardian in 1821 in the UK.
The development comes a year after the Guardian laid down principles for the use of GenAI in its newsroom, pledging it will only use "genAI tools editorially only where it contributes to the creation and distribution of original journalism" and will guard against biases that happen so far to be inherent in the technology.
"This new partnership with OpenAI reflects the intellectual property rights and value associated with our award-winning journalism, expanding our reach and impact to new audiences and innovative platform services," Keith Underwood, Chief Financial and Operating Officer, Guardian Media Group said, according to the OpenAI blog.
OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap said the partnership will seek to provide users access to "relevant, timely news content."
OpenAI has over the years partnered with several news publications, such Axel Springer, Conde Nast, News Corp, Times, etc, for use of their content.
