Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas faced backlash from users on X when he offered to help the New York Times which is beset with a tech workers' strike.
NYT Tech Guild workers have been on strike demanding an annual 2.5 per cent wage increase, among other things, since Monday and have seen little in way of a succour so far from the newspaper administration.
NYT Publisher AG Sulzberger in a statement to employees deprecated the Tech Guild's decision to strike at the time of presidential election, "such a crucial time for our country."
Responding to a post on X that carried the statement, Srinivas pitched in with his help. "Perplexity is on standby to help ensure your essential coverage is available to all through the election. DM me anytime here," he said.
His offer, however, did not sit well with several users, who accused him of being a "scab" and a strike saboteur.
NYT had earlier called out Perplexity for scraping its content to power its AI models and secured a cease and desist order against any activity.
