Russian anti-virus firm Kaspersky to exit US market after facing ban

Kaspersky Labs, the popular Russian anti-virus firm, will be wounding down its US operations from July 20 — about a month after it faced a sales ban from the country.

The software company was barred from selling its wares in the US by the Joe Biden administration under apprehension that they may threaten cybersecurity.

The US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo had last month announced plans to bar the sale of Kaspersky in the country.

The US government also slapped sanctions in June on Kaspersky's senior leadership citing cybersecurity risks.

The ban on the sale of the software, renewal of licences etc, will come into effect on September 30.

The software, however, has already been marked unavailable for the US customers on the company's site.
