Spotify has in select countries introduced a feature which will allow users to create AI-generated playlists based on themes such as locations, animals, activities, emojis, and film characters.
According to Spotify, users can use prompts to combine moods, artists, genres, and eras, with options for further customisation through additional prompts.
The feature has initially been launched for Android and iOS users in the UK and Australia.
"We’re providing our Spotify Premium subscribers with another tool to fuel discovery and music curation. With AI Playlist in beta, you can effortlessly turn your most creative ideas into playlists," Spotify said in a release Sunday.
The company said that it employs large language models (LLMs) to comprehend the user's intention. Then, using its personalisation technology fuelled by the listener's history and preferences, the platform generates a tailored playlist in response to the prompt.
It also incorporates a variety of third-party tools to enhance its AI and machine learning capabilities.
To access AI Playlists on the Spotify mobile app, user can go to "Your Library" at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Then, tap the "+" button and choose "AI Playlist." Select a suggested prompt or create your own. Then just wait for Spotify to curate tracks.
Users can also refine it further by providing feedback like "more pop" or "less upbeat." Finally, tap "Create," and your playlist will be saved in Your Library automatically.
In December last year, reports surfaced about the AI Playlist feature when numerous TikTok users discovered it within the Spotify Library App.
